About this event

These appointment slots are for 2019 tax returns only. If you would like assistance with filing previous year returns, please call 831-757-3206 for more information.

If you have already attempted to get your taxes done somewhere else, please verify whether they were filed or not before scheduling an appointment with us. We cannot file your tax return a second time.

This virtual process requires a smart phone or computer access and an email address to complete and upload tax documents.

United Way's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance service (VITA) is focused on putting more money into the pockets of working families. IRS-trained volunteers offer FREE Tax Prep for families and individuals who earned less than $56,000 in 2019! Our goal is to make sure you get your FULL refund, claim all your eligible credits, and learn to use taxes to grow your assets! You can count on VITA to provide the highest quality tax service to families, individuals, and some small business owners.

Did you make more than $56,000 in 2019? You can still file your own taxes for free at MyFreeTaxes.org.

Select a date and time to complete an intake and screening process via phone.* During the time selected someone will call you and ask a series of questions about your income, expenses, etc. during 2019. You will then be provided a secure way to upload your 2019 tax documents, social security card(s), and ID(s) for all individuals on the tax return. The documents will be provided to a certified volunteer tax preparer to complete your return who may call you if they have any questions. A volunteer tax certified reviewer will then double check the return for accuracy, call you to go over the document with you, and answer any questions you may have. Then a UWMC staff member will reach out to obtain an e-signature to authorize the e-filing of your tax return as well as provide you a copy of your return.

*If you are Married Filing Jointly, both spouses need to be available for the intake call in order to verify identity and electronically sign a virtual agreement form.

This process will take approximately 5-10 business days from the date of intake appointment to complete.

We are unable to assist with your tax return if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are married but want to file separately from your spouse (Married Filing Separately filing status)
  • You had rental income in 2019
  • You filed bankruptcy in 2019
